Upper Ohmer Exploration

Anyone on the Kenai Peninsula will tell you that this winter was extremely mild. Often a mild winter makes for slushy, undesirable conditions, and oddly enough outdoor fun happens less it seems. With this in mind we were pretty excited to go on our first camping trip of the year with our good friends the Wohler family. We camped on the Kenai Wildlife refuge in a DNR cabin on Upper Ohmer Lake. The weather was great, the company was a blast, and Amy and I kept contemplating why we didn’t do this more often this winter. Justice and I shot some arrows and went on a lengthy little hike with our friends up a nearby rock tor. Justice and I both suffered some war wounds on the hike but I convinced him that we were arctic explorers and that no scraped knees or elbows would stop the likes of us. All the boys went to sleep quick that night, allowing the adults to get an intense farkle game in. The next morning we packed up and headed home with the smell of campfire smoke on our clothes. I don’t think there is a better smell.
